Cross Country Program

INDIAN HILL RECREATION COMMISSION CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM

GIRLS & BOYS - Targeted for Grades 4 through 6
****will accept 3rd grade runners if able to run long distances****


SIGN-UPS SATURDAYS MAY 10 and 17
9:00-12:00 at Indian Hill Middle School Cafeteria

Our goal is to proivde an opportunity for all participants to learn (1) proper warm-up techniques (2) how to run (3) track etiquette and (4) the rewards of conditioning.


  • Practices start late in August or early September and end the last week of October.
  • Practices will be held on Monday and Thursday from 5:45to 7:00 PM at Stephan Field.
  • Practices vary from running distances up to 3 miles, interval and hill workouts.
  • To measure progress of each individual mrunner, two timed mile runs will be held - one in the early part of the season and the second toward the end of the season. The results are to show progress of the individual, not to compare one runner to another.

              Individual goals are established which includes:
                   Improvement of the mile run time
                   Number of miles run during the season



Cross Country Meets/Events are usually held on Saturdays and consist of one of the following:

  • 2 mile event & a 5K (3.1 miles) event, held at various locations around the city
  • Breakfast run held at Sharon Woods - a run around the loop of the lake followed by breakfast
  • Lunch run held at Nesbitt Park - a run out and back on the Loveland Bike Trail followed by
    a lunch

    Track Program

    INDIAN HILL RECREATION COMMISSION TRACK PROGRAM

    GIRLS & BOYS - GRADE K through 6

    SIGN-UPS FIRST TWO SATURDAYS IN DECEMBER
    9:00-12:00 at Indian Hill Middle School Cafeteria


    Our goal is to proivde an opportunity for all participants to learn (1) proper warm-up techniques (2) how to run (3) track etiquette and (4) the rewards of conditioning.

    • To measure progress of each individual runner, two heptathlons will be held - one in the early part of the season and the second at the end of the season. Each Individual will be timed in all running events (50m, 75m, 100m, 200m, and (Grades 3 through 6 only) the 400m and measured in the softball throw and ling jump. The results are to show progress of the individual, not to compare one runner to another.
    • Track Meets are invitationals (mostly against Catholic Youth Organization schools), usually held on Saturdays.

 

  • Events:
    K,1st & 2nd grade boys and girls at 8:30 and 11:00 (Longest running event 200m,       Field events are the Long Jump and Softball Throw)
  • 3rd & 4th grade boys and girls at 11:30 and 1:30 (Longest running event 200 m,           Field events  are Long Jump, Softball throw, High Jump, and Shot Put
  • 5th & 6th grade boys and girls at 2:00 to 5:00 (Longest running event 800m,
     Field events are Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Discus

    Grade K thru 4 run in heats (based on gender and grade) and each runner receives a ribbon for his/her place in the heat. For grades 5 & 6, the top 6 finishers in each event receive an award. Each runner is entered in 3 events, usually two running events and one field event. Generally att the meets, boys do field events first, then runniong events. Girls do running events, then field events.

    Parent volunteers are needed to assist at practices: to direct kids to stations following the coaches prescribed workout. NO SPECIAL TRAINING IS REQUIRED TO ASSIST.

    Parents are asked to volunteer as needed at meets.
